So you want to be Orthodox?

As a general rule, we want to see someone regularly for a few months before we begin talking about that person becoming a catechumen. This is not to say that the person is just an outsider the whole time. Instead they are beginning to investigate the teachings of the Church; its life and rhythms, its ascetical practices, its liturgical life, and its people. As part of the lead up to baptism, you need to become part of the community. Eventually you will need to choose a sponsor (godparent) which is difficult if you don't know anyone. That doesn't mean that an introvert needs to become a social butterfly, but it does mean developing some relationships.

Speak to one of the clergy about your background, about any struggles you have, about the things that you are learning and encountering. If you are faithfully attending as often as you can, at some point we will begin catechism for you to learn the things that will help you as you approach baptism and the life that lies beyond baptism.

Don't expect the process to be swift, but expect it to be helpful in turning yourself from life in this world toward life in Christ.
