A Homegrown Mission in Nampa
Saint Spyridon's Orthodox Mission began with a desire to teach a class about the Biblical references in the Great Penitential Canon of Saint Andrew of Crete in the weeks leading up to Great Lent in 2024.
The parish of Saint Seraphim of Sarov in Boise, ID is growing so quickly that we had discussed the idea of expanding geographically to serve more areas, and so we were looking for a location to pray together, to discuss the Canon of Saint Andrew, and to enjoy a meal together.
A family of catechumens opened their home to us and we began meeting every Tuesday evening. Sometimes we had only a few people, sometimes over 30 people in their living room.
Once the class was over, everyone wanted to continue. After eight months, we found a larger space for us to continue this endeavor.
After six months, we found a space that would enable us to hold services on all weekends and feast days. On Holy Tuesday 2026, we celebrated Bridegroom Matins in our new home, and on Pascha we celebrated Agape Vespers. Starting Thomas Sunday 2026, we began having regular weekend services at our new lovation.
From the beginning, we have sought to be a welcoming place for people to explore Orthodoxy, to learn about it, and to participate in the prayers of the Church.
